Car Dumpers/Locomotives Clash Detection

This project has recently been successfully completed with great success. The challenge was to determine clearance distances between locomotives and rotary car dumpers. Due to the dynamic nature of the dumpers, it was necessary to create detailed 3D CAD models from the scan data.

The 3D models could then be virtually taken through the dump cycle in a CAD package and the clearance from the variety of different locomotives (also modelled ad 3D CAD models) could be ascertained. The locomotives were placed in a number of different locations to simulate different parking location.
