RGP3 Port Hedland BHP Third Berth Wharf Construction

Asphar Survey was contracted to carry out works for John Holland who were servicing BHP Billiton’s Iron Ore Rapid Growth Project 3.
The aim of this was to upgrade the existing port facilities at Finucane Island, Port Hedland, which were in need of improvement and advancement to cope with the increased demands.
The Length of the project lasted 2 years and finished in 2007 at a cost of $146 million.
The contract comprised all marine structural works required in providing a reconstructed Berth C which included:

The demolition of the existing Berth C, which required careful control and safety precautions.
Construction of a new replacement wharf structure that would align with the existing Berth D.
The D-C Link: Joining of new Berth C and Berth D
Construction of a new maintenance deck for a shiploader at the south end of Berth C.
A new approach road to access the new maintenance deck.

All works had to be performed under shipping and access restrictions in order to minimise impacts on functionality and shipping.
